Steam train
Unique journey with a steam locomotive on the Inlandsbanan
About the association
We are a non-profit association that runs steam train traffic during the summer on Fridays and Saturdays in July and the beginning of August, with departures from Arvidsjaur in the inland of Norrland to Slagnäs, a round trip of 50 km one way. We are a group passionate about maintaining and running steam trains, as well as preserving them and, above all, the knowledge for the future. The steam train ride takes you through genuine northern Swedish forest landscapes with mountains and valleys, swamps, lakes, and tarns, with memories from the construction of the inland railway, including old navvy barracks. In Slagnäs, there’s an opportunity, while we oil the locomotive, to climb aboard and look around and talk to the driver/fireman. On the way home from Slagnäs, we stop at the beautiful sandy beach at the lake Storavan. There, we offer sausages to grill and swimming for those who wish, along with open views of mountains and beautiful sunsets reflecting in the clear water of the lake. A magical journey that one should not miss if we may say so ourselves.
